Notes and To-Do Lists That Actually Work

A to-do list helps only if you trust it and use it. Most lists fail because they grow too long, mix big goals with tiny chores, or live in too many places. A few habits fix that.
Capture everything in one place
Write tasks down the moment they come to mind, in one list, so your head is free to think. The To-Do List lets you add a task in a few seconds, tick it off, edit it and move it up or down. Use the Online Notepad for anything longer than a line, like meeting notes, ideas or a draft.
Keep the list short and clear
- Start each task with a verb, such as call, write or send, so you know what to do.
- Break big jobs into steps small enough to finish in under an hour.
- Pick the three things that matter most today, and put them at the top.
- Move things you won't do soon to a someday list instead of leaving them to nag you.
Work in focused bursts
Choose one task, set a timer for 25 minutes with the Pomodoro Timer, work on only that task, then take a short break. Crossing off a task after a burst feels good, and it shows how long jobs really take.
Review each day
Spend two minutes each evening moving unfinished tasks forward or deleting them, and choosing tomorrow's top three. Doing this stops the list from piling up.
Where your notes are kept
These tools save your list and notes in your own browser, so nothing is uploaded and they work offline. The trade-off is that they don't sync between devices, and clearing your browser data deletes them. Download or copy anything important, and use the .txt download in the notepad as a backup.
