Frequently asked questions
How do I find a future price?
Multiply today's price by 1 plus the inflation rate, once for each year. At 3 percent for 10 years, 100 becomes about 134.39.
How do I see what my money will buy?
Divide the amount by 1 plus the inflation rate for each year. 100 will only buy what about 74.41 buys today after 10 years at 3 percent.
How do I find the inflation rate from two prices?
Choose Find the inflation rate, then enter the price at the start, the price at the end and the years. The tool gives the average yearly rate.
What is a real return?
Your investment return after inflation. A 7 percent return with 3 percent inflation is about 3.88 percent in real terms.
Does it use live inflation data?
No. You enter the rate yourself, so it works offline and sends nothing anywhere.
