Frequently asked questions
What is a URL slug?
The slug is the readable last part of a web address, such as "my-post-title" in example.com/blog/my-post-title.
Hyphens or underscores?
Google recommends hyphens because it treats them as word separators. Underscores can make two words read as one.
What happens to accents and symbols?
Accents are removed (café becomes cafe), "&" becomes "and", and other symbols and punctuation are dropped.
How long should a slug be?
Short and descriptive is best, commonly under 60 characters. Use the max length slider to trim at a whole word.
