Frequently asked questions
What are the parts of a URL?
For https://user@example.com:8080/a/b?x=1#top the protocol is https:, the host is example.com, the port is 8080, the path is /a/b, the query is ?x=1 and the fragment is #top.
Are parameter values decoded?
Yes. Values such as two%20words are shown as two words, and new values are encoded again when the URL is rebuilt.
What happens if I leave out https://?
The parser assumes https:// so a bare address such as example.com/page still works.
Is my URL sent anywhere?
No. Parsing happens in your browser. Be careful sharing URLs that contain tokens or passwords.
