Frequently asked questions
How are authors written in MLA?
The first author is Last, First, and any second author follows as First Last: Smith, John, and Mary Lee. With three or more authors, only the first is given, followed by et al.
How should titles be written?
In title case, with the main words capitalized. Type them that way, because the tool keeps your capital letters. Web page and article titles go in quotation marks, and books and websites in italics.
Do I need the web address and the date I visited?
MLA asks for the web address without https://. The access date is optional, so the tool only adds it when a page has no publication date and you fill it in.
How does the in-text citation work?
It is the author's last name and the page number, like (Smith 45), with no comma. Two authors use and, and three or more use et al.
Can I build a Works Cited list?
Yes. Press Add to my list for each source, and the list is sorted by author. You can copy it all with italics.
